The First Man · The Chosen of God (Safiyy Allah)
آدم
Adam is the first man and the first prophet. The Quran relates that he was fashioned from clay, then God breathed into him of His spirit and appointed him as a steward (khalifa) on earth.
God taught Adam the names of all things — knowledge the angels themselves did not possess. He then commanded the angels to prostrate before him; all obeyed, except Iblis, who refused out of pride.
Adam and his wife Hawwa lived in Paradise, where everything was permitted to them except approaching a certain tree. Deceived by the whisperings of Iblis, they ate from it.
They were then sent down to earth. But unlike Iblis, who persisted in his pride, Adam immediately acknowledged his fault and turned to God, who accepted his repentance.
Adam teaches that error is human, but greatness lies in acknowledging one's fault and returning to God with sincerity — whereas pride imprisons.
