The Story

From a lineage of Timbuktu scholars, Ahmad Baba authored dozens of books in jurisprudence, biography and grammar.

When the Moroccan army invaded his homeland, he was taken captive to Marrakesh; even in exile his teaching attracted students, and he eventually returned to his homeland.

He remains a landmark figure of the intellectual golden age of the African Sahel — a witness that high scholarship flourished on African soil.
