Jesus, Son of Mary · The Messiah (al-Masih), Word of God
عيسى
Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam, is one of the greatest prophets of Islam. The Quran calls him al-Masih (the Messiah) and the Word of God. Born miraculously of a virgin mother, he received the Gospel and performed, by God's permission, radiant signs. Islam venerates him as a prophet, not as divine.
Isa was born of Maryam without a father, by God's decree: 'Be,' and he was. To defend his mother from accusations, he spoke from the cradle, declaring himself a servant of God and a prophet.
Become a messenger to the children of Israel, he performed by God's permission miraculous signs: he fashioned birds of clay into which he breathed life, restored sight to the blind, healed the sick and raised the dead — always specifying that this was done by God's permission, not by himself.
He confirmed the Torah and brought the Gospel, calling to the worship of the one God. The Quran teaches that he was neither killed nor crucified, but that God raised him up to Himself.
Isa shows that the greatest signs only have value to recall the greatness of God, never that of man. He himself, before every miracle, referred to his Lord — a model of humility at the heart of power.
