Mihja' was among the sincere, humble believers of the earliest days, a freedman attached to Umar ibn al-Khattab.

Tradition presents him as one of the first Muslims to fall as a martyr at the Battle of Badr.

His memory recalls that the front ranks of Islam included people without power or lineage, whose faith weighed more than their status.
