The False Christ — The Greatest Trial of the End of Times

The Dajjal (False Messiah)

المسيح الدجال

Summary

The Dajjal is a pretender who appears at the end of times, first claiming prophethood then divinity. He possesses deceptive abilities with which God tests people, and will be the greatest trial humanity has ever known. The Prophet ﷺ emphasised that all the prophets warned their peoples about him. In the end 'Isa kills him when he descends.

The Story

The Prophet ﷺ said (Muslim): 'From Adam until the Hour, there is no creation greater than the Dajjal.' And he confirmed that no prophet was sent without warning his people about him.

His Description (Bukhari and Muslim): a young man with curly reddish hair and a large body. His most distinguishing mark is that he is blind in his right eye as if it were a swollen grape. Between his eyes is written 'kafir' (disbeliever) which every believer can read even if illiterate. A simple criterion the Prophet ﷺ gave: 'Your Lord is not one-eyed, and indeed the Dajjal is blind in one eye.'

His Abilities (trials by God's leave): he commands the sky to rain and the earth to produce. With him is what resembles Paradise and Hell but his 'Paradise' is in reality fire and his 'Hell' is in reality good. The Prophet ﷺ advised: whoever is forced to pass near him should choose what appears to be his fire as it is in reality good.

His Duration: he remains on earth for forty days — the first like a year, the second like a month, the third like a week, and the rest like normal days. He traverses all the earth except Mecca and Medina protected by angels.

His End: when 'Isa ibn Maryam descends, the Dajjal melts 'as salt melts in water.' He is hunted and killed by 'Isa at the gate of Ludd (Lod in Palestine) — and the greatest trial ends.

The Dajjal is not mentioned in the Quran but the hadiths about him in terms of quantity and agreement have reached the level of tawatur among scholars, making belief in him part of the creed. Two notes for precision: The protection the Prophet ﷺ taught is practical: memorising the opening of Surah al-Kahf according to what Muslim reported. This is an established authentic hadith. By contrast, many speculations circulate: identifying the Dajjal with a contemporary person, organisation or technology or setting a date. None of that has basis in the texts. The Prophet ﷺ gave signs to recognise him when he appears, not for playing at speculations. The site presents what the Sunnah established and stops there.

The Lesson

The Dajjal teaches vigilance before deception. The greatest trial will not come in the form of obvious evil but disguised as good — a false Paradise hiding fire. The fortress is not curiosity or fear but knowledge, firm faith and holding to the Quran (Surah al-Kahf). Evil however great ends defeated: the Dajjal melts before 'Isa.
