Elijah · The Prophet Who Denounced the Worship of Baal
إلياس
Ilyas (Elijah) was sent to a people who had forsaken God to worship an idol named Baal. The Quran counts him among the messengers and extends a salutation of peace to him.
Ilyas called his people to fear God and renounce Baal, the idol they had taken. He challenged them: why invoke Baal and forsake the Best of Creators, Allah, their Lord and the Lord of their forebears?
His people called him a liar and persisted in their idolatry. But God saved Ilyas and the sincere servants, and perpetuated his renown in the generations that followed, with these words: 'Peace upon Ilyas.'
Ilyas teaches the courage to speak truth to those who have gone astray, even alone against an entire people, and the trust that God never abandons those who remain faithful to Him.
